DOCUMENTATION AND CAD

GIGABLOX SFP (BB-GFP-A-1) 3D CAD

An ultra compact six port gigabit ethernet switch with SFP compatibility

GigaBlox SFP is a 6 port (5 x 10/100/1000BASE-T + 1 x 1000BASE-X) ethernet switch designed for applications needing high data throughput with the scalability of an SFP for network expansion. Typical applications include drone communication links, underwater rover tethers and any other application that requires SFP + gigabit speeds in a SWaP limited profile.

The combination of 5 gigabit ethernet ports and a 1Gbps SFP on enables a huge range of networks to be constructed, far more than is possible with a standard 5 port ethernet switch (like GigaBlox). This makes GigaBlox SFP perfect for building networks that consist of a group of local devices and a single, long reach link. This topology is common in underwater rovers and drones.

A super compact design

We've managed to squeeze five 10/100/1000BASE-T ports and one 1000BASE-X (SFP) port into a 55mm x 55mm making GigaBlox SFP is the smallest SFP compatible switch on the market. We use Molex PicoClasp connectors, which are vibration tolerant due to their positive locking feature.

Wide voltage input range

Like many of our other boards, GigaBlox SFP can be power off any any voltage from 5 - 60V, and features overvoltage and reverse polarity protection.

Wide operating temperature range

GigaBlox SFP can operate from -40°C to +85°C, enabling it to operate in far more challenging environments than typical commercially available ethernet switches.

MIL-STD-810H environmental compliance

GigaBlox SFP has been qualified to operate in extreme environmental conditions through thorough MIL-STD-810H qualified testing. The table below shows the tests that GigaBlox SFP has been qualified to operate under.

High Temperature

MIL-STD-810H, Method 501.7 High Temperature, Procedure II Operation, Constant Temperature Exposure:
110
°C, 30 minutes, <3°C/minute, uncontrolled humidity

Low Temperature

MIL-STD-810H, Method 502.7 Low Temperature, Procedure II Operation: Constant Temperature Exposure:
-70°C, 1 hour, <3°C/minute, uncontrolled humidity

Temperature Shock

MIL-STD-810H, Method 503.7 Temperature Shock, Procedure I-A One-way Shock(s) from Constant Extreme Temperature:
-40°C to 110°C, high and low temperature maintained for 5 minutes, a total of 3 cycles

Humidity

MIL-STD-810H, Method 507.6 Humidity, Procedure I Storage and Transit Cycles:

27°C, 95% RH, 30 minutes

Vibration

MIL-STD-810H, Method 514.8 Vibration, Procedure I General Vibration, Category 13 Fixed Wing Propeller Aircraft:

Vibration Type: Broadband background with superimposed narrow band spikes
Frequency Range: 10Hz – 2000Hz
Orientation: In each of 3 mutually orthogonal axes, 20 minutes per axis for 1 hour

Shock

MIL-STD-810H, Method 516.8 – Vibration, Procedure I – General Vibration, Category 13 – Fixed Wing Propeller Aircraft:

Peak Acceleration = 90g, Shock duration, (Te) = 6ms

Software and management

GigaBlox SFP will be incorporated into the BotBlox BloxOsLite software, allowing the following switch management functions to be achieved.

  • Basic Port management
  • Port and Tag Based VLAN
  • QoS

Compatibility with this software will be released in September 2024
