  • The Smallest Industrial Gigabit Ethernet Switch

    We were able to secure a limited number of the ICs we need to manufacture GigaBlox Rugged. 

    This allows us to offer a limited number of GigaBlox Rugged units as EMERGENCY STOCK units, for customers who urgently need this product.

    These units are identical to our previously manufactured boards, albeit at an inflated price.

    Why are these different?

    Stock on the VSC7511 (the main IC on this board) is depleted and, despite our backorders on this part, will not be back in stock until Q1 2023. 

    We were able to procure a limited number of this IC through non-authorised dealers. We then had these ICs tested by a third party test lab to verify authenticity.

    This has allowed us to manufacture a limited number of boards, that we can make available for urgent customer needs.

    Our standard GigaBlox Rugged offering at the normal price of $295 will resume in Q1 2023.

    GigaBlox Rugged is a very small layer 2 unmanaged and managed ethernet switch that fits four 10/100/1000Mbps copper ethernet ports in an ultra-compact 50mm x 55mm form factor. GigaBlox Rugged is designed to be a more rugged and more capable upgrade to our GigaBlox product and is designed for space, weight and price-sensitive (SWaP) industrial, mobile and military applications.

    GigaBlox Rugged has an input voltage range of 10V to 60V with transient, overvoltage, and reverse polarity protection on board, meaning it can be dropped directly into a system powered by unregulated bus voltage. This wide input voltage range is particularly advantageous in motor control systems where additional voltage headroom is required due to motor voltage transients.

    The -40°C to +105°C ambient operation range is achieved by using automotive/military-grade components whose operation is rated for -40°C to +125°C.

    GigaBlox Rugged is also coated with a silicone conformal coating (422C) to provide basic ingress protection.

    GigaBlox Rugged does not require any configuration and works “out-the-box” as an unmanaged layer 2 switch. More advanced management features are also possible thanks to the powerful embedded VSC7512 ethernet switch IC from Microsemi. Such features can be enabled by customizing the boot image using reference software from Microchip. 

    GigaBlox Rugged supports end-to-end IEEE1588 Precision Time Protocol packets by automatically updating the PTP correction field for all PTP packets received.
