Description

Due to the recent chip shortage, GigaStax Rugged is out of stock until November 2023. Until then, we are able to manufacture in lower volume using chips sourced from other suppliers. While the cost is high, this at least allows us to supply boards for critical applications. Normal supply at the standard price will resume November 2023.

Industrial Gigabit Ethernet with Modular Connectivity

GigaStax Rugged is a very small managed and unmanaged ethernet switch that fits five 10/100/1000Mbps copper (PHY) ethernet ports and one MAC RGMII port in an ultra compact 48mm x 48mm form factor. GigaStax Rugged is designed to provide more easy expandability than GigaBlox Rugged, while maintaining the rugged features. This makes GigaStax Rugged ideal for harsh applications where compactness and connector flexibility are crucial.

GigaStax Rugged has a wide input voltage range of 5 to 60V with transient, over-voltage and reverse protection onboard, along with dedicated stable power-on-reset circuitry, meaning it can be dropped directly into a system powered by unregulated voltage with non-monotonic startup.

The -40°C to +85°C ambient operating range is achieved using automotive grade passives and industrial grade semiconductors.

Connector Modularity

GigaStax Rugged uses a Samtec Razor Beam (LSHM-140-04.0-L-DV-A-S-K-TR) to breakout the following signals:

- Five gigabit ethernet PHY ports (for connection with external devices)
- One RGMII MAC port
- I2C switch management bus + reset line, power enable
- Input voltage
- 3.3V rail output for supplying other devices

This allows a daughterboard to be mated with GigaStax Rugged for total flexibility of expansion on the PHY port connectors, connected MAC devices etc. We sell a standard daughterboard that breaks out the five ports onto PicoBlade connectors, like the rest of our range.

We offer a standard daughterboard, GigaStax Rugged PicoConn, that breaks out all connections to PicoBlade and FFC connectors.

Onboard Transformers

GigaStax Rugged contains all LAN transformers onboard to be fully compliant with IEEE 802.3 providing 1500V AC isolation between all ports. This means the daughterboard only needs to provide connector breakout.

Onboard Microcontroller

GigaStax Rugged contains an STM32 microcontroller onboard that runs switch configuration firmware over I2C. This firmware can be modified to access basic switch management features such as VLANs, Port Mirroring and IGMP.
